Komen Aspen is releasing a public service announcement on new guidelines released from The American Cancer Society (ACS) concerning breast screening. ACS and Komen Aspen are recommending women at a very high lifetime risk for breast cancer receive yearly screening MRI in addition to mammography. The new guidelines were published in the ACS Journal CA March 28, 2007.For women with a lifetime risk of 20-25 percent or greater of developing breast cancer, the ACS recommends annual MRI screening. According to the article, this includes those women with the following risk factors: having the BRCA mutation; being a first-degree relative of a BRCA carrier or having a strong family history of ovarian cancer; and having been treated for Hodgkin’s disease between the ages of 10-30 years (Treatment includes radiation to the chest area.)Komen Aspen is dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. The Soccer Jamboree for 4 and 5-year-olds will be held from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 6 at Glenwood Park Soccer Field. Registration forms will be accepted through April 6. The Glenwood Springs Soccer Club is also accepting registrations for our USC Camps for ages 5 13 being held July 16 20 and August 6 10. Construction Junction in Carbondale is having a Spring Cleaning sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Advocate Safehouse Project. Woodys Rollin Smoke will be serving barbecue, with a portion of the proceeds also going to Advocate Safehouse. A drawing will be held Saturday for store gift certificates. Enter the 36th Annual Carbondale Mountain Fair T-Shirt and Poster Design Contest and win $500 if your design is chosen.The winning design will be used for the 2007 Mountain Fair Poster and T-Shirts.
