The Carbondale Mountain Fair cannot go on without your help. The Carbondale Mountain Fair takes place July 27- 29 in Sopris Park. Over 300 volunteers are needed to pull off three days of arts and crafts, live music and family fun. Help keep the fair sustainable through the Green Team, or sell raffle tickets and T-shirts, set-up, break-down and all points in between need your help. Receive this years Mountain Fair T-shirt and a raffle ticket for a New Belgium Cruiser Bike for every four hours volunteered. Please call CCAH at 963-1680 to sign up.

A hospice volunteer training class begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. The class will meet for three Tuesday evenings, July 28, Aug. 7, and Aug. 14.The training is an in-depth look at hospice services and the critical role volunteers can play in the end-of-life journey for hospice patients.If you want to learn more about hospice care, or if you are interested in being a hospice volunteer, please contact Sean Jeung at 384-7531.

An open house will be held for retiring dentist Dr. Charles Townsend from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 13, at the Rifle Fire Department.Friends and patients are invited to attend and say congratulations, and to meet Dr. Chad Burgess.



The Earthbeat Summer Music Camp is coming to New Castle from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 16-20 at Kathryn Senor Elementary School. Earthbeat has been in existence for 25 years in the Roaring Fork Valley. The participants will be invited to sing at Burning Mountain Festival on July 21. The normal price has been reduced. The Carbondale Chamber Business of the Year will be awarded at the Carbondale Chambers Annual Business Conference on Tuesday, Sept. 25. The award honors the business member that best exemplifies entrepreneurship, customer service, sustainability, productivity, and effort. Criteria: The spirit of the award is to recognize the business that has a history of outstanding business practices in the Carbondale community. The business must be a Carbondale Chamber member in good standing and locally owned and operated. To request a nomination form, call the Chamber at 963-1890, or e-mail chamber@carbondale.com. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Aug. 31.



Volunteers are need for this years Hogback Hustle 5K race, to be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14, in New Castle. The race proceeds benefit Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers. Volunteers are asked to show up at 7:45 a.m. in front of the City Market. Volunteers will receive a goodie bag, T-shirt and free breakfast.

Join the staff from Pitkin County Open Space & Trails and Roaring Fork Conservancy in their Exploring North Star Preserve by Water event starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14. Bring your canoe, kayak, or ducky and float the gentle Roaring Fork River through some of the most important wetlands in the upper Roaring Fork Valley. Staff members will give the history of North Star Preserve, point out wildlife, and discuss recent restoration activities along this mild two-hour float. Please dress appropriately life jackets are required; the float will happen rain or shine, but is dependent on river flows and may be cancelled due to extremely high or low flows.
