EllynAnne Geisel will display some of her vintage aprons and speak on her unique collection at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Glenwood Downtown Market on the corner of Ninth and Grand Avenue. She will be signing copies of her book, The Apron Book, from 7-8 p.m. at Through The Looking Glass.Glenwood Sewing Center will also be in the park with handmade vintage-style aprons for sale.Osage Gardens has joined the downtown market, and the Rock Dogs will perform rock and roll.
The Basalt Summer Music Series presents this seasons grand finale Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Willits Town Center. Musician Peter Karp performs from 6-8 p.m. in Triangle Park, while the Basalt Chamber of Commerce hosts a Business After Hours party with stores and restaurants at Willits Plaza.The stops and restaurants at Willits invite the public to view their new spaces and sample their offerings. Wednesdays party will also honor the 2007 Basalt River Days volunteers. Triangle Park is located in front of Smoke Restaurant on Harris Street off Highway 82. On Friday, Aug. 10, local pastor Lauren Martin completed his cross-country bicycle tour from Washington to Maine.All who know him, followed his trip online, or those just wanting to laud his accomplishments and hear about his adventure are invited to join a community celebration from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, in the river pavilion at Two Rivers Park.For questions, call Shelley at 984-3185.
A potluck for Doc Philip will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Doc and Kay Philips house, 75 S. Third St. in Carbondale.Doc has retired after 30 years of chiropractic practice, and is scheduled at Cleveland Clinic in September for seizure monitoring and possible surgery.Friends and former patients are asked to give Doc a great send-off and envision together the best possible results. Muhammad Ali Hasan, co-founder of Muslims For America, will be the guest speaker at the Sunrise Scramble at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in Parachute. Muhammad is an award-winning filmmaker and political commentator for Fox News, MSNBC and BBC Radio.
