The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications for regular membership in the Extension Advisory Committee. The advisory committee meets between two and four times yearly, serves a crucial role in giving citizen voice to Extension education program planning, development, and evaluation, and helps with program accountability. Roaring Fork Conservancy invites all photographers to enter the 2007 Roaring Fork Watershed Photography Competition. Categories include amateur category and professional photographers. Organizers are looking for striking digital images of the rivers, streams, and wetlands of the Fryingpan, Crystal and Roaring Fork rivers and their tributaries. Entry deadline is Dec. 31, 2007. Carbondale Clay Center is taking registrations for six-week classes, including classes for adult students of all levels and after-school classes for children. Call the Clay Center at 963-2529 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.This month, the Clay Center features work by local and national artists K Cesark of Carbondale; Jody Guralnick of Aspen; Nick Joerling of Penland, N.C.; Sue Kolbe of Glenwood Springs; Lynn Smisser-Bowers of Kansas City, Mo.; and Ken Turner of Seattle. A reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 7.A two-day demonstration workshop by Lorna Meaden will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 22 and 23. This workshop will explore ways to create pots having a generous sense of volume and fluidity of line with wheel-thrown and altered porcelain.



Chilis Restaurant is participating in a month-long fundraiser for St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. The restaurant is trying to raise over $5 million dollars to help fight childhood cancer.Chilis will be donating all profits from Sept. 24 to St. Jude. Apple recipes wantedThe Museum of Western Colorado is sponsoring a recipe contest for its Apple Jubilee/Two Rivers Chautauqua event to be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Cross Orchards Historic Site. All recipes must contain fresh and/or commercially processed apples.The grand prize is a one-night stay for two at the Hotel Colorado, and cash prizes will be awarded for first and second places in several categories.This contest is for amateur cooks and chefs only. Literacy Outreach will begin offering a Spanish literacy class for Spanish speakers who are unable to read or write in their native language. Class size will be very small, three to five students, and will be taught by a native Spanish speaker.
