Author Harold Shepherd will be signing copies of his book, Compromising Democracy The Rise and Fall of the Second Conquest of Western Rangelands, from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at The Lift Coffee Shop, 400 block of Main in Carbondale.Many of the environmentalists predictions such as global warming, conflicts over water, degradation of water quality and public lands have or are coming to fruition. In Compromising Democracy, Shepherd reveals a unique insight in the management of federal rangelands in the West. He inspires hope that there is finally public and political momentum for the protection of ecological systems on western public lands.
The Carbondale Chamber Business After Hours will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Alpine Center Building in Carbondale. Western barbecue, blackjack and prizes are on the agenda.
The eighth annual Culinary Arts, Wine and Brewfest will be held from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Hotel Colorado. Call the Center for the Arts at 945-2414 for tickets.
