Teams are in full gear for the Rifle Area Relay For Life and beginning to host a variety of fundraising events. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society to turn hope into a cure.The Community Banks of Rifle team, The Grinch who Stole Cancer, is sponsoring a hairstyles and facials event beginning at 1 p.m. March 29, at Community Banks in Rifle. Besides hairstyling and facials, the event includes lots of samples, giveaways, and food and drink. Hair styling will begin at 3 p.m. Appointments are preferred, and walk-ins are welcome. Call 970-274-1075 and ask for Samantha for more details.Moes Southwestern Grill in Glenwood Springs will be hosting a fundraiser for Team Shrek, Happily Ever Laughter, April 10. Aspen ShortsFest films will be held at the Crystal Theatre at 5:30 and 8 p.m. Friday, April 4; 5:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5; and 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is offering the Glenwood Caverns Begin a New Adventure Scholarship. To support its employees interest in furthering their education, the Park will grant two $1,000 scholarships to students in pursuit of post-high school education. Applicants must have worked at the park at least 200 hours during the previous calendar year. The scholarships will be granted based on merit, with consideration given for number of years of employment with the park and dedication to its mission: making people smile. The first scholarships will be granted in 2009. Applications will be available online at glenwoodcaverns.com or at the Parks tram base beginning January 2009 and will be due March 1, 2009. The park is now hiring for full- and part-time positions, including cave tour guides. Applications, which can be downloaded from http://www.glenwoodcaverns.com/ngc_jobs.html, are being accepted at the tram base or by fax at 945-2051.
Bring your rod and learn about the world-class fly fishing on the Roaring Fork River with Roaring Fork Conservancy from 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 9. Avid angler, Kirk Webb, manager of Taylor Creek Fly Shop in Basalt, will lead this two-hour introduction to fly fishing at Old Pond Park on Two Rivers Road in Basalt. The program will include an overview of Old Pond Park, practical entomology, reading the water, and a casting tune-up. Please dress appropriately; the event will happen rain or shine. Free breast exams done by a nurse practitioner will be offered for women age 55 and older through the Columbine Home Health Wellness Clinics from 1-4 p.m. April 3 at Mesa Vista Assisted Living in Battlement Mesa. Call 618-3606 to schedule an appointment.
