Gavan Brouillette will be selling lemonade from 10 a.m. to 3p.m. May 31 in the Rifle Wal-Mart parking lot for donations to benefit childrens cancer research.The organization, Alexs Lemonade Stand, raises funds for childrens cancer research. Colorado Virtual Academy, the virtual school Gavan has attended for several years, is hosting lemonade stands all around the state the weekend of May 31.

The Glenwood Springs Recreation Department is offering a Black Hawk Casino Trip for Seniors aged 50 and up Sunday, June 8. Please register by Monday, June 2. For more information, call 384-6301.

A cottage concert will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the Schenck residence on Missouri Heights. Betsy Schenck will play piano works by Bach and Chopin, and an Americana tribute or medley of Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Scott Jplin and Zez Confrey (thats right, Zez, you know, Kitten on the Keys.) The Glenwood Springs Post Office is offering a special Passport Fair informational event for area residents from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at the Glenwood Springs Library, 413 Ninth Street. Besides applying for your passport or passport card if you need one, participants can also learn how to use the many services and shipping discounts offered by the Postal Services 24-hour on-line Post Office at usps.com. Information will be given on how to create your own mail flyers and advertising mail, how to design your own personalized postage, postcards and greetings cards, as well how to use the postal website to take advantage of new package and shipping discounts of as much as 12 percent. If you are applying for a passport, the Post Office recommends bringing proper proof of American citizenship. This must be either a certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state; a previous U.S. passport; a certificate of citizenship; or a naturalization certificate. (Note: a hospital-issued birth certificate alone is not acceptable.) Bring proof of identity. This must be either a previous U.S. passport; a naturalization certificate; a certificate of citizenship; or a current valid drivers license, government ID or military photo ID. The passport application requires two recent identical photographs. If you dont have photos, photo services will be available for each application payable to the Post Office.To save time, download a passport application at usps.com/passport and complete it beforehand. Passport applications must be made in person and cannot be made online.
