As part of its fundraising efforts on behalf of the American Cancer Society, the Roaring Fork Valley Relay for Life will be participating in the Tough Enough To Wear Pink Rodeo, starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Carbondale Rodeo grounds.Information about the upcoming event, set for Friday night, Aug. 8, will be available. Memorial luminaria, honoring friends and family who have lost the battle to cancer, may be purchased along with a number of other donated items, with all proceeds from sales going directly to the American Cancer Society.For more information on The Relay For Life go to http://www.RoaringForkRelay.com.

The next New Castle Garden Club Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 15 at Oz Studio in downtown New Castle. A tour of the new Smart Scape Garden will be given during the meeting as well as an update on the community garden. The garden is now fenced so you cant miss it.The community garden is in need of compost materials. Any New Castle resident is asked to help with bagged grass clippings, yard remnants, newspapers (minus the inserts), wood chips, sawdust, etc. The soil at the community garden is in need of nutrients, and compost bins are being constructed this week. Pickup will be available at times, and drop off can occur at the community garden site south of the Colorado River between the new condos and Riverbend.If you can donate any of the compost materials, call Molly Kehoe at 948-7824.

Valley View Hospitals Holistic Harmony music program will be celebrating its third year anniversary from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 31, in the upper lobby. It will be an elegant evening of music, performed by 13 of the hospital musicians. Hors doeuvres and wine will be served. Tickets can be purchased at the hospital gift shop. Bring your canoe, kayak, or ducky and float the gentle Roaring Fork River through some of the most important wetlands in the upper Roaring Fork Valley from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23. Staff from Pitkin County Open Space & Trails and Roaring Fork Conservancy will give the history of James H. Smith North Star Preserve, point out wildlife, and discuss recent restoration activities along this mild two-hour float. Please dress appropriately life jackets are required; the float will happen rain or shine, but is dependent on river flows and may be canceled due to extremely high or low flows. Spend the late afternoon with a Roaring Fork Conservancy naturalist on a River Walk along the Roaring Fork River and Castle Creek on the Meadowlands Open Space from 4:30-5:30 p.m. July 25. Meet at the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen to explore the confluence of Castle Creek and the Roaring Fork River and learn about the local flora and fauna of this valuable riparian area. This naturalist-guided walk will occur before the Aspen Music Festival and School concert in the Benedict Music Tent. All participants are welcome to enjoy the 6 p.m. concert performance by either purchasing a ticket for admission to the Benedict Music Tent or sitting on the lawn outside the tent. Please wear good walking shoes and dress appropriately; the event will happen rain or shine. The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) sincerely apologizes for any difficulties that this has caused and is working to get Quest to correct this problem.

The city of Rifle has adopted a Workforce Housing Incentives Pilot Program. The program involves residential dwelling units for ownership by households in which a full-time resident is employed within the corporate boundaries of the city of Rifle.For more information about this pilot program, contact the city of Rifle at 625-2121.

The Carbondale Mountain Fair is signing up volunteers for the 2008 Carbondale Mountain Fair, held July 25-27. People are needed to man the Green Team, Peace Patrol and Outer Limits (Stomparillas control the streets of Carbondale); help with numerous other Mountain Fair booths, stations and enterprises is needed as well. Alpine Legal Services Do it Yourself Divorce Class will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs. Attendees will be provided with all of the necessary documentation required to complete the divorce process along with the necessary information about how to manage the case start to finish.A small donation of is requested for this service, but no one will be denied services for lack of ability to pay.This clinic is supported by grants from Aspen Valley Community Foundation.
