Come hear Colonel Thomas Kirk, retired U.S. Air Force, speak on behalf of Sen. John McCain on Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Springs High School (auxiliary gym, south entrance) 1340 Pitkin Ave. Col. Kirk spent 51⁄2 years as a prisoner of war at the infamous Hanoi Hilton prison camp in North Vietnam and was John McCain’s cellmate part of that time. Admission is free, and all are welcome. The Art of Defense Martial Arts is hosting a spaghetti fundraiser dinner, benefitting local children and families active or planning to be active in martial arts. The pasta feast starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, at the Art of Defense, 910 Grand Ave. Cost is $7 per person, $4 for children and $22 for families.

The Crystal River Caucus will be hosting Meet the Candidates Night for the Pitkin County commissioner race on Thursday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m., at the Church at Redstone. Residents will be asked to prepare no more than three written questions. Discussion will be limited to local issues.
