Thunder River Theatre Co. has been nominated for the 2006 El Pomar Foundation’s Award for Excellence in Arts & Humanities. Each year a winner and two finalists are selected in eleven categories which reflect specific areas of service in the nonprofit sector. Winners receive $15,000 and finalists receive $7,500. One overall winner is chosen for the Julie and Spence Penrose award of $25,000.

Full and half-day volunteers are needed at the Mother’s Day Mile race to be held Sunday, May 14. Assistance is needed with registration, set-up, tear-down, water distribution, baking apple pies and course cheerleading. Those interested please contact Holly Graubins at or call 945-2632, ext. 101. Race takes place at Glenwood Medical Associates,1830 Blake Ave.

A Chautauqua will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5 and 6 at the Silt Historical Park, 707 Orchard Ave., Silt. Demonstrations will include flint knapping, blacksmithing, spinning & weaving, candle and soap making and baking bread.
