The Silt Blue Crush U18 girls soccer team went 10-0 this club season, outscoring their opponents 71-6. It was their second consecutive year placing first in the Western Slope Soccer League.

The Brian Mable Karate School participated in The Western Tang Soo Do Federations annual seminar in Las Vegas the weekend of Nov. 8. Brian Mable, president of the WTF, presided over this event. Sessions on knife attack/defense, one-step sparring, kung fu, yoga and free sparring were the main topics of instruction.The Dick Douglas Black Belt of the Year is awarded at this event. Master Dick Douglas was the founder of the Western Tang Soo Do Federation in 1998. He received his black belt from Chuck Norris in 1969, was a tournament champion and is in The Black Belt Hall of Fame.The recipient of The 2008 Black Belt of the Year was Ken Newton. He is a third-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and has been studying Karate with the Brian Mable Karate School for the past 27 years. He trains and instructs at the Brain Mable Karate School. Newton has instructed at the Western Tang Soo Do Federation seminars, participated in tournaments and other seminars. Newton has contributed to Tang Soo Do Karate for many years and that contribution has been appreciated by many.

Teacher Alli Rickerts fourth-grade class at Kathryn Senor Elementary finished first in a schoolwide contest to see how many students could walk or bike to school in October.
