Medicare D Open Enrollment has begun and lasts through Dec. 3. Check coverage and costs before Dec. 15 to be ready to use the prescription plan easily Jan. 1. The Holiday Fund helps raise funds for nonprofit organizations in Garfield County. Over the next few weeks, the Glenwood Springs Post Independent will feature some of these organizations and the people who work for them. The goal is to raise $20,000 to distribute to these nonprofits.Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Glenwood Springs Post Independent at 2014 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601. Make checks out to Two Rivers Community Foundation.Nonprofits make a huge difference in the community. This is an opportunity to help them and to say thanks.This years selected nonprofit organizations are Family Visitor Programs, Kelseys Kids, YouthZone, Advocate Safehouse, LIFT-UP, Toms Door, Valley View Hospital, Meals on Wheels, RSVP, Solar Energy International and Forest Conservancy.
The public is invited to a dedication ceremony and open house for the Garfield County Courthouse and Rifle Police Department/Municipal Court facility will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 200 and 201 E. 18th St. in Rifle.
Grand River Hospital District is hosting a cheese tasting event from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Grand River Medical Center clinic lobby.Sample artisan cheeses from six different countries and learn about wine and cheese pairings. There will be gift baskets available to buy and, if you make a purchase, you receive a coupon for discounted wine at Choice Liquors.There will be a minimum donation at the door, and all proceeds benefit the GRHD employee-giving campaign to help build the healing garden at the new facility.
Everyone is welcome to come to the free Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixins from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at the Eagles Lodge, 312 Seventh St. in Glenwood Springs.Volunteers are needed to help with this event. Please call 945-5506 after 4 p.m.

Another Glenwood Springs City Council election has passed, but we doubt about two-thirds of Glenwood residents even noticed — certainly not based on the pathetic 31% turnout in balloting that concluded April 6.
