The town of Basalt and the Basalt Chamber of Commerce invite the public to a free lunch event to launch the town’s local stimulus program, from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, in downtown Basalt.Volunteers are needed for parking, setup, cleanup and other duties. Anyone who volunteers for two hours or more will receive a free breakfast, and a commemorative T-shirt to wear during their shift, as well as lunch. June features a group show at S.A.W. (Studio for Arts + Works), 978 Euclid Ave., Carbondale (across from Taipei Tokyo, off of Highway 133). The Friday, June 5, opening from 6-9 p.m. is timed with Carbondale’s monthly First Friday art walk, when many of the town’s galleries and studios host opening receptions for area artists.Artists in the show, which runs through June 30, include Nancy Barbour, Stanley Bell, Steven Colby, Kate Davenport, Anne Goldberg, Angus Graham, Colby June, Gretchen Koenig, Andrea Korber and Alex Watson. A wide variety of ceramics, jewelry, paintings and prints are featured. In addition, S.A.W. will be open for the Roaring Fork Studio Tour from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 6-7. Many of the S.A.W. artists will be working in their studios, so visitors can see how the works are made. The Glenwood Cavern’s Adventure Park is holding a Local’s Appreciation Weekend June 5 -7. Coupons for a free tram ride after 5 p.m. for each day can be found in the Glenwood Springs Post Independent on June 5 and 6. The park will also have drink specials and live bluegrass music by Cottonwood Acoustic on Saturday, June 6, from 6:30-9 p.m.Call 945-4228, ext. 111, for information.
The Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge 2286 holds its annual yard sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 6. All proceeds will go to the Disabled Veterans Sports Program. Donations for the sale will be accepted at the Elks Lodge, 51939 Highway 6 on Friday. For more information, call 945-2286.
