County taking the steps to ensure proper ballot counting

The past few elections both nationally and locally have made it very apparent that the systems in place for ballot counting are not always perfect.

As citizens, we need to be confident that our vote is counted. Garfield County and County Clerk Mildred Alsdorf have done their best to ensure error-free ballot counting in the next election.

Some of the problems in the past have stemmed directly from an erroneous ballot count, resulting in an official change to the election results. At the time, the reaction of a lot of people was to scrutinize the election officials and methodology for unethical activity, which was not the case.

The blame was placed squarely where it actually belonged ” old and outdated equipment. Alsdorf has a sincere and firm commitment to fair and equal access to the voting booth as well as accurate results afterward.

Many parts of the country have had serious problems with their voting equipment in the past few elections, and some of those areas have not been proactive in pursuing upgrades and repairs to their balloting machines. Some have worked very hard to avoid the problems they’ve had in the past few elections.

Alsdorf and her staff are hard at work upgrading their systems, and the county’s voters can have confidence in her office when they go to the polls this election.
