Don’t forget the true meaning of Memorial Day

Memorial Day is many things to many people, but we shouldn’t forget its true meaning.Good or bad, this country’s history has many chapters with war and bloodshed as a central theme. Those wars and that bloodshed have helped shape our country and provide us with the freedoms we now have. Our national anthem was written during a time of war. The words pay tribute to freedom, bravery and patriotism.Memorial Day was created to honor those who died serving our country. The men and women who serve our country should always be recognized for their service. For the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom, they should never be forgotten for that sacrifice. That’s the true meaning of Memorial Day. We should remember and honor them more than just on one day, but that’s why Memorial Day is so important.Take time today to remember those men and women who died, and those who served, many of whom are serving today. The final words of “The Star-Spangled Banner” shed a spotlight on this special day:”… the land of the free and the home of the brave.”Today and every Memorial Day is the day when those words resonate the loudest.Memorial Day is to remember and honor those men and women, who throughout our history, have helped secure our freedom in America with their bravery.Let’s not ever forget them.
