Friday letters: Trump as president
Federal cuts would sting red states the most
With Trump coming back, it looks like we have four years to watch for the next crazy thing to happen.
Like saying the next director of the Department of Justice will be a guy under investigation who has very little legal experience.
But here’s one. We are told that the federal government will be severely cut back. Which would cut federal aid to the states. I compared the states that voted red to the states that get the most federal aid. With a couple of exceptions, the majority of aid goes to the red states. Oops!
The 10 biggest aid “users” are: 1, Alaska, New Mexico (3.6% blue), Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi, North Dakota, Louisiana, Montana, South Carolina, and 10, Arizona. Maybe the Trump crew will “pick” the states (blue) to get the cuts.
I heard Trump One didn’t want to send money for firefighting to California because they didn’t vote for him. But his staff told him the areas burning the worst had mostly republican voters. So they paid. Don’t bother with the history books. This will be all new stuff.

Trump and Musk
A multi-billionaire, with billions of dollars of federal government contracts, gives $200 million to a candidate for president and before that candidate even takes office, the multi-billionaire is a member of his inner circle planning the new administration’s policies and joining calls with world leaders.
In what universe does that make sense?
Certainly not in a modern democracy. My wife said to me, “What do you think our parents would think of Elon Musk and his influence on Trump?”
Well my parents would find it impossible to believe that would happen in America. It would violate everything they believed about this country. Not only would they think it’s undemocratic, but that it’s utterly un-American. They loved this country and so do I.
I think it’s utterly un-American. Let’s make American democracy again.

What if Trump brings unity?
So…Trump will be president — now what?
How about a more positive slant and say “what if?”
What if Trumps presence brings about a unity of resiliency? Leaning on each other for support, encouragement, finding ways to work together all for the greater good. Keeping God/Christ/Spirit/whatever your higher power, front and center in our lives, following the commandment to “love each other as I have loved you.”
Holding onto, protecting, practicing, displaying and feeling that love for everybody — no exceptions! Fighting hatred with love…What if? May it be so.
