Grand Valley News

There are many activities in our communities for senior citizens; at first glance it looks confusing and overwhelming, so I thought I would explain a few details and make the process of participating much easier.

A resident of Battlement Mesa, whether homeowner or renter, is eligible for membership to the Battlement Mesa Activity Center.

Homeowners pay an annual assessment every January to the Consolidated Metro District. Once this fee is paid, just walk up to the front desk at the Activity Center and ask to get your plastic membership card. One of the very nice front-desk personnel will take your picture and have your card ready in a few minutes. (Unless you’re like me ” I broke the camera the first time; sorry, Mindy.) Now you are set to use the Activity Center facilities, just swipe your card each time you come into the center.

Renters need to have a signed current lease agreement on file with Battlement Mesa Company to be eligible for membership. To verify your lease status, call the management office at 285-9740. If you happen to be sub-leasing from an individual, there is a form that must be completed by the owner of the modular unit. This form is available at the management office also. Once this step is complete, just go to the front desk of the Activity Center, and away you go.

No means of transportation to the Activity Center? OK, that can be fixed for you. The Battlement Mesa Co. offers a shuttle service, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. Just call the management office at 285-9740 to schedule a pickup. The driver will come right to your house and pick you up and drop you off at the Activity Center. He will then come back to get you at the time you tell him, and he will drive you home.

The shuttle also runs to the Senior Center in Parachute on Wednesdays for the luncheon. He will drop you off at 11:30 a.m. and return for you at 12:40 p.m. Please call the Senior Center at 285-7216 on Monday between 9 a.m. and noon to reserve your spot for lunch.

The shuttle bus service also runs to Grand Junction on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. The shuttle leaves Battlement Mesa between 8:30-9 a.m. and returns around 4 p.m. Call 285-9740, at least 24 hours in advance, to reserve your seat.

Now that you know just how easy it is to participate in the many activities offered here ” get out and have some fun.
