Saturday dawned clear and crisp for the 2004 Kid Curry Scurry. About 40 folks gathered at the Activity Center to celebrate fitness and fun. The Activity Center would like to thank all the volunteers who made this event possible: Amy Finley, Adam Ford, Jennifer Casey, Drew McFarland, Daniel Chaffin, Charlie Smyth, Gary Osman, Kathy Morris, Nick and Sharon Massaro, Jean and Dick Buchan, Fran Storm, Robin Martin, Orene Speyer, M.L. and Larry Rowe, John Benditti, Chris Fortensky, Jannelle and Tom Terrall, Joe Cason, Debi Trujillo, Lori Sweers and Alan Baker.Parachute/Battlement Mesa Parks & Rec soccerThere are two girls soccer teams this year, an under-10-years-old team and an under-12-years-old team. There are also five under-8-years-old teams, which are comprised of both boys and girls. The U10 team is coached by Lori Metcalf, and it has four wins and 0 losses. The U12 team is coached by Kelly Clark, and it has zero wins and three losses, but is working hard to turn that record around. Leslie Smith, Mike Loughry, Keith Irons, Teresa Snyder, Terry Ludwig and Terry’s daughters coach the U8 teams. The U8 teams are practicing now and will have intramural games, twice a week beginning the week of Oct. 4. The U8 teams are for the little guys, 5 to 7 years old.Welcome to Dan Vollendorf, the new program director. Dan comes to us with a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and recreation experience from the city of Fort Collins. Look forward to new and exciting ideas from Dan.OktoberfestJust a reminder to mark your calendar for 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Cottonwood Park for the Chamber’s Oktoberfest. Music and dinner begin at 5 p.m., and the fireworks at dark. Should be a great show and a great time – be sure to tell me about it. Dani and I are going to the University of Colorado homecoming football game that day.
