Friday, Sept. 15, is Homecoming Day for the Cardinals. The Cardinals will be hosting Rangely for both volleyball and football.The C team volleyball game starts at 4 p.m.; junior varsity at 5 p.m. and the varsity volleyball game will begin at 6 p.m.Kickoff for the football game is 7:30 p.m.The junior class parents will be hosting a Tailgate Party from 4:30 through 8 p.m. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, chips and dessert. Teri Nicholson, mother of junior Whitney Ashcraft, is the chairperson for the Tailgate Party. Teri is putting a lot of time and energy into the preparation of this event, which promises to be a great party. The LaFarge team of Steve Fisk and Jeff Gonzales will be barbecuing the meat. (Thanks, LaFarge.) The party will be located on the open area between the football field and the school building. Prices for the Tailgate Party are $5/hamburger plate; $2.50/hot dog plate; $2/homemade scones.All proceeds from the party will be given to the junior class to help finance prom in the spring. This event is a lot of fun and brings the community together to celebrate the kids at the high school. Please mark your calendar and attend the evening’s activities. “The Old School House Revisited,” by the Grand Valley Women’s Connection, will be held beginning noon Sept. 21 at the Battlement Mesa Activity Center. Cost is $8.50 inclusive. The event features Judi Hayward of the Grand Valley Historical Society, speaking on the history and renovation on the Old School House on Battlement Mesa. Also speaking at the event is Vera Valk from Stonecroft Ministries, speaking on “Surviving the Speed of Life.” Musical entertainment will be provided by Rachel Strait. Reservations are necessary for free child care.The 2006 Annual Photography Contest is sponsored by the Battlement Mesa Activity Center and Battlement Mesa Company. The formats are black/white, 35 mm, digital or scanned. Contest information and entry forms are available at the activity center. All entries must be at the activity center by Oct. 6. The entries will be displayed in the activity center lobby from Oct. 7 through Oct. 21. The photos will be judged and prizes awarded.The musical group, “Heart of the Rockies,” will be performing at a benefit for Valley Senior Center at 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Valley Senior Center, 540 Parachute. The event is sponsored by EnCana. Tickets are $15 per person. Call 285-7602 or 285-1182 to purchase tickets. No tickets will be sold at the door.Saturday, Oct. 14, is the First Annual Cardinal’s Booster Club Golf Outing. This will be a nine-hole scramble with a 2 p.m. shotgun start. Pairs and single entries will be matched to form teams. An entry fee of $40 per person includes nine holes of golf, a cart at the Battlement Mesa Golf Club, tee prize, awards ceremony and a cookout after play. Extras will include long drive, closest to pin, and longest putt made for both men and women. The play is limited to the first 72 entries.
