Nonprofit organizations in Garfield County may apply for funds from the Holiday Fund. The fund is co-sponsored by the Two Rivers Community Foundation, the Post Independent, La Tribuna, The Citizen Telegram and The Valley Journal, and its purpose is to raise money to support various nonprofit and other organizations in Garfield County. This years goal is to raise $20,000 to distribute to at least 20 applicants. All monies raised stay in Garfield County.Pick up and drop off applications for the Holiday Fund applications at the Post Independent, 2014 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs. The Congregational Church of the Valley is hosting a Thanksgiving worship service at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Silt Historical Park, 707 Orchard St., across from Roy Moore School in Silt. Please dress in plain dark and warm clothing.We will worship in the manner of the Pilgrims. You are invited to bring a pumpkin dessert to share and take home some desserts from other bakers. The Roaring Fork High School Student Council will host a free Thanksgiving community dinner from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the school, 180 Snowmass Drive in Carbondale. For questions, contact Student Council sponsor Laura French at 384-5789.



Bring your child ages 1-6 to a catered lunch and a visit from Santa from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 9, at Carbondale Town Hall. Register for this event at the Carbondale Recreation Department by Wednesday, Dec. 6.

The town of Carbondale Recreation Department, along with CCAH, invites kids and adults of all ages to light up downtown Carbondale and welcome Santa from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec.1, at the Fourth Street Plaza and Main Street. There will be free hot chocolate and cookies to keep you nice and warm.



Colleagues in Christ Ministerial Alliance of Basalt and El Jebel are organizing the annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. Families in the midvalley are pre-qualified through Pitkin and Eagle County. Canned and nonperishable goods donations are needed to be taken to the El Jebel City Market, Basalt Town Hall and all the local church lobbies to fill the anticipated 80-90 boxes.Financial donations for the turkeys and fixings made be mailed to Basalt Methodist Church, Box 1159, Basalt by Nov. 21.Contact Janice Duroux 927-3549 or Marie Gasau 927-4098.

Heritage Park Care Center and Heritage Park Assisted Living ask that family and friends of our residents mark the date of Sunday, Dec. 3, on their calendars for the Heritage Park eighth annual holiday dinner. Conundrum Catering Companies and some of the valleys top chefs will once again come together to help create this event, which will begin at 5 p.m. at Heritage Park, 1200 Village Road in Carbondale. Volunteers are needed to assist with serving, and may contact Ronda or Susan at 963-1500 or EKS Events at 927-8808.

A food drive for LIFT-UP holiday baskets will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday, November 18-19 from 9:30 a.m. at the Carbondale City Market. This food drive will provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for those in need throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.A trailer, collection boxes and volunteers will be at Carbondale City Market to collect food for our less fortunate community members. Please come out and donate to this important cause.Food needed includes canned vegetables, fruits, pie, fillings and evaporated milk; pie crust mixes (non-refrigerated), Jell-0 and pudding mixes, stuffing mixes; biscuit, roll or cornbread mixes.
