Letter: Acha for commissioner

As a former Garfield County commissioner, I am pleased to support John Acha for county commissioner. John has served his country, owned a business and has a website full of productive ideas for growing and diversifying our economy, while addressing the ongoing concern of affordability. I encourage you to visit his website to learn more about John and what he can bring to Garfield County.

After serving as an elected official in Garfield County and regionally for 15 years, I am a true believer in term limits. I served on the Board of Education for seven years and the county commission for eight years. Although many would love to continue to serve in an elected capacity, because social and economic priorities change, and new insights and technologies change our local, national and global perspectives, it becomes important to the future of any governmental jurisdiction to have new perspectives at the table. I have to agree with those who have said that it is time for John Martin to retire.

With respect to the Democratic Party’s decision to make a CORA request to the county; Mr. Merritt (in his letter to the editor) was not correct in inferring that this was a first in Garfield County. The Republican Party requested seven years of my emails while I was serving as a commissioner. They did not find anything of value to use against me, but they, too, felt as though this was a tool for them to use during a campaign season. As elected officials, we are held to a higher standard.

Please take the time to review John Acha’s website before you cast your vote for county commissioner.
