Letter: Brooks no disrespect
Provided here is my response about recent comments regarding the disturbing exhibitions of protesting by various football team members, including GSHS, during presentations of our national anthem and flag at the beginning of the football games.
The recent opinion pieces by Bryan Whitting and by Coach V. appearing in the PI were very well stated, explaining the acts of disrespectfulness toward the country that has made possible the freedoms to express protest, and the opportunities for mostly free education with the progression for becoming very wealthy athletes, but that the protesters were selfishly using the wrong situation.
While I agree with the opinions, I would not state them nearly so nicely. As an American GI veteran and U.S. citizen, I don’t tolerate anyone disrespectfully using any display of the national anthem and flag in any manner for any purpose. Should I have been in charge of any of those team members, I would have yanked them straight up, told them what they were acting like, and run their ungrateful butts off the field. They may, and should, do their protesting respectfully at the school or courthouse door.
