Letter: Cheney’s empathy

We lost our sister to a hideous crime over a decade ago. It was a crime that was forgotten and unchallenged. Sabrina (Dang) Bebb-Jones was a young, loving and nurturing mother. Sabrina had the love, passion and excitement for the outdoors and entrepreneurship. Sabrina loved to travel, and it was on one of her travels that she discovered Grand Junction.

Sabrina mentioned to me that the people of Grand Junction were so friendly and nice compared to Los Angeles. She also described how clear the air was and how the view of the snow-covered mountains was so scenic. Immediately after the vacation, she decided to move there and start in the hotel business. It was a struggle at first; eventually, the hotel moved in the right direction. We were amazed how Sabrina juggled building a business and raising a young son.

Then the day came when we received a phone call that she was missing. We still remember that day. Her brothers drove to Grand Junction to help search for her.

Ten years later, Sabrina’s skull was found. Mr. Jeff Cheney, as the lead prosecutor, came to our home, looked Sabrina’s parents in the eyes and committed to bring the murderer to justice, and he did.

Having witnessed Mr. Jeff Cheney’s great empathy for Sabrina and her family, tremendous dedication to the office of the DA, we encourage you to vote for him as 9th District Attorney.
