Letter: Cost of obituaries

The Post Independent prints letters to the editor at no cost. It prints stories about local miscreants and criminals as a community service.

But at a time of community members’ greatest need, when a loved one has died, the PI charges hundreds of dollars to print an obituary.

The obits were free a few years ago when I wrote one for my father-in-law. The last one I wrote for a friend cost $154 for one-sixth of a page. Must be a real hard time making money in the newspaper game.
