Letter: Dependence Day?

Well, we’ve blasted our way through another Freedom Celebration.

As I reflect back over the years, I am appalled at how things have changed.

Maybe we should stop calling it Independence Day and instead call it Dependence Day.

Nowadays, all sorts of government agencies of questionable legitimacy create a plethora of regulations that they impose on formerly free citizens.

Regulations that we did not get to vote on but are nevertheless given the force of law.

If all the building regulations are really legitimate, then every structure in Glenwood that was built without a permit should be torn down because it obviously can’t be safe because it wasn’t inspected and no fee was paid.

Also, property tax is in reality a lease you pay the government.

If you really think it is yours, stop paying that tax (lease) and see if they won’t take your property.

Almost every move you make now days requires numerous permits, inspections and fees.

We used to be the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Our new identity will be the land of the fee and the home of the slave.
