Letter: Fires and quakes?
I was raised in New Castle in the 1950s and we would get up every morning in the winter, look across the river at the hill side to see if there was a new sinkhole. The whole coal vein is burning from New Castle to Rifle Dam.
Does anyone think it possible some of the mountain might be caving in underground? There must still be fire in the mountain because you can see warm spots where the snow has melted off. Would this be enough to cause the tremors? Just a thought. If they think when you inject fluid in it could cause tremors, it stands to reason if you have voids from anything it could cause the same effect.
