Letter: Manor perspective
I am 83 years old and have lived in Manor II for nearly 11 years.
I see the current situation a little differently then some of the other letter-writers.
First, Monroe/Steele is not doing this to help their residents. The money they receive from HUD is based on the fair market value of the apartments currently that is $735. With the improvements, it will probably go to $1,300-plus per month.
Second, the building inspection ignores the fact that a fire suppression system is being installed. Air conditioning, new appliances in the kitchen, a new bathroom, new light fixtures, new flooring and many more upgrades are being installed, making this a major redo. But when it is done we will have a great place to live.
The real problem is Monroe/Steele’s poor management. We have not had a manger for months. Before that they came and left very quickly. If there had been stable management the manager would have had time to get to know the residents and many problems could have been avoided.
The bright side of all this is the workers. From the top down they have been respectful and friendly and kind.
I honestly can not say enough about them. They are a great group of men.
