Letter: No more war
Days before the Fourth of July, devout Christian Donald Trump fired the first round in this year’s “War on Christmas,” reminding a gathering of evangelicals of his promise that: “We’re going to start saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again.” He was unclear if that was to start immediately or after Halloween. Then, to up the ante, he launched another salvo during his inspirational speech at the national Boy Scout Jamboree on July 24.
OK, fair enough, I give up, you win; I propose that all rational people declare a pre-emptive surrender in the “War on Christmas” and happily say: “Merry Christmas” this year and deny the Christmas warriors the pleasure of working themselves into a tizzy or, at worst, a frenzy.
With their outrage in check, the whining abates, thus we win by surrendering.
“A very Merry Christmas
“And a Happy New Year
“Let’s hope it’s a good one
“Without any fear.”
