Letter: Paula Stepp unites

Paula Stepp deserves to be our next county commissioner. Paula Stepp is a great listener. As a matter of fact, she’s a natural at it. Paula has a progressive vision for the future, and she is a leader that will unite us.

A few years back, during an oil shale meeting before the Board of Garfield County Commissioners, around 200 people took time off of work to voice their opinions. Commissioner Jankovsky did not want to hear their opinions. Before anyone had the chance to speak, Mr. Jankovsky announced to the room that he had already made up his mind and we were wasting hours of our time waiting to speak. With the exception of one gentleman, all present spoke against oil shale development in our county.

Apparently, Commissioner Jankovsky is unclear how representative government works. Furthermore, he thinks he doesn’t have to listen to those that don’t agree with him.

In terms of progressivism and the future, Paula Stepp has shown leadership that will bring us together. Our future together depends on collaboration not on the divisive actions of our currently elected officials. Real progress is not doing more of the same old, same old. New ideas and actions are needed. Paula Stepp, like any single person, will not be able to do it alone, but she will be very good at listening and getting help from others.

As Garfield County commissioner, Paula Stepp will never fail to listen to someone who comes to her with a concern.
