Letter: Pay teachers more?

In her June 27 PI column, Lindsay DeFrates says we need to pay teachers more money. Hmmmm.

Teachers work nine months and get paid for 12. They get better insurance than most of their students’ parents can afford. We just approved subsidized housing for teachers and many millions of dollars more for a new school and other improvements.

And yet Ms. DeFrates says ever more money is the answer. She claims teachers are ”dynamic, highly qualified, trained and constantly evaluated experts.”

I on the other hand adhere to the old adage: Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach.
