Letter: Poor campus locations

I read with interest the recent front-page story about the founding of CMC by David Delaplane. I have always felt that the location of the CMC campus in Spring Valley, while a beautiful spot, was a great mistake. And equally as great a mistake is the location of the Rifle CMC campus up on the mesa adjacent to the Garfield County Airport.

Both CMC facilities should have been located in their respective towns for many reasons. Gifts of land should never have been accepted by the college if the land was not in the right place. The executive committee made a very poor land-use decision as did Garfield County in permitting the establishment of the CMC campuses in remote locations. They ought to have looked the gift horses in the mouth.
