Letter: Praise for DeVos

Parents, teachers and reformers like Betsy DeVos share one thing in common – they wake up each morning thinking about how they can best advocate for the interest of children across the country. Betsy DeVos has spent nearly three decades leading fights for reform in the best interest of America’s students in state capitals throughout the country, and as secretary of education she’ll do the same.

Some argue that DeVos doesn’t have the necessary experience to be secretary of education, something that is patently false. She has worked tirelessly in over 25 states to affect real change and has led on behalf of students and parents for over 28 years. Now more than ever, we need her principled leadership in our nation’s capital.

Ms. DeVos has been at the forefront of promoting school choice and parental rights, which is critical to me as a parent. Even Sen. Michael Bennet has voiced support on some of the policies Ms. DeVos has fought for, noting that “In Colorado, many great charter schools have helped boost student achievement.” Not only has she fought for much-needed policy changes, but she has helped improve the lives of thousands of low-income students across the country as head of the American Federation for Children, one of the nation’s leading groups advocating for students.

As secretary of education, I know she’ll work tirelessly to improve the lives of those who need a quality education the most.
