Letter: Praise for safe havens
I wish to thank the Re-1 school board members for their wisdom and sensitivity in adopting a “safe haven” resolution in regards to all students.
Parents and children in the Re-1 school district now know that their children are safe in their classrooms and will receive quality education whether they are immigrants or U.S. citizens. Of course, the children in Re-1 have always been safe and treated with respect in our schools, but this resolution was necessary to reassure children and parents due to the president-elect’s negative stance on immigrants to the U.S. who are not here legally.
We are all one human family no matter where we were born or what papers we have to prove who we are.
