Letter: Senior center needed
I am writing in regard to two issues currently facing our city — the old library and the bridge project.
While I can think of many good uses for the old library building, the one I believe is most needed is a senior center. Neighboring communities all have them. They are well-received and serve vital purposes for our seniors. They are places to mingle, to eat, to take classes and to fully enjoy life.
On the subject of the bridge construction, we have already heard stories about the changes that will have to be made to accommodate all the traffic driving into and through Glenwood Springs. While we are looking for ways to mitigate traffic flow, we need to remember the small businesses in our community. They will be impacted, as well. Now that summer is here, this would be an excellent time to wander the downtown area and explore our local shops.
Maybe we could discuss these ideas in a meeting at our senior center. Oh, wait — we’re the community that doesn’t have a senior center.
