Letter: The rich do pay

It’s amazing to me that Mr. Malo can say, “What baffles me is how the top 1 percent in personal income can get away with paying no income taxes.” This is simply not true.

I Binged the topic and found plenty of data at National Taxpayers Union Foundation (ntu.org). You can find similar information on sites like npr.org and many others. Analyzing Tax Year 2014 IRS figures (latest available), they conclude that “the top 1 percent of earners pay 39.5 percent of all income taxes. The top 10 percent paid over 70 percent of all taxes – the highest level in our data, spanning back to 1980.”

We need to get over the notion that the rich don’t pay any taxes. It’s simply not true.
