LETTER: A response from the Shooters Grill owner
In response to Eric Olander’s letter to the editor that was extravagantly “preened” with his large vocabulary, I would like to assure readers that our “theme” at Shooters Grill is no gimmick. It is a way of life.
A local customer told me told me several months back that great owner-operated restaurants he had visited all had some quirk that made them stand out. He insisted that Shooters needed to have something that no one else had.
As we discussed this, I considered our coffee mugs made by local potters, local artistry hanging on our walls, our friendly staff — all of which are great, but should be a regularity in any establishment.
All the while, I stood there with my Taurus Judge holstered on my hip, as my servers passed by with smiles as they comfortably and safely walked with their firearms. Open and concealed carry is so common to us that the idea of this being our “flair” never even occurred to me. This truly is our way of life. We do not carry as a theme or costume or to play a role in some cheesy gimmick.
The citizens of Rifle have blessed us tremendously before any of this publicity. From the beginning of this establishment, my husband and I stood in agreement on God’s word that says “Commit your plans to the Lord, and you will succeed.” — Proverbs 16:3.
We have done just that, and my Lord is a faithful rewarder of those who diligently seek Him!
We won 10 Gold and Silver Locals’ Choice awards after only being in business for one year. Those included gold for Best Restaurant in Rifle and Silver for Best Restaurant overall!
We are in this for people. We do not serve or worship guns, we worship the Lord Jesus Christ. We love the people who He has created.
We do not stand around waiting for an attack. If I know my customers well enough, I believe none of us would even have a need to draw our firearms because our customers would already have the situation under control. We also have fire extinguishers in several areas of the restaurant, yet we are not anticipating any fires.
As the recent article mentioned, my staff are all trained to properly use and not use their firearms. We offer classes to our staff at no charge; it is actually a requirement that anyone who chooses to carry in the restaurant pass a background check and take the training. There is no excuse for anyone to ignorantly carry a firearm.
Owning and possessing a firearm does not make us targets, or “an obstacle that must now be shot,” as Olander erroneously implied.
I also would say that there is nothing wrong with a little preening. I think it is respectful to have a presentable staff serving your customers.
Sir, I would like to thank you for your thoughts on the matter, and for your time. I pray that you will have a blessed life. God bless you!
