Letter: Caloia living up to campaign promises

This letter is written to congratulate 9th District Attorney Sherry Caloia and Assistant District Attorney Anne Norrdin for the successful investigation, prosecution, conviction and sentencing of former Roaring Fork Transportation Authority attorney Walter Mathews IV. As the readers of the Post Independent know, Walter Mathews desecrated his position of public trust and embezzled more than $23,000 in RFTA money for personal use.

In the resulting plea bargain, Norrdin stated to 9th District Court Judge James Boyd, “Mathews’ actions reflect upon the legal profession as a whole.” Consequently, Norrdin insisted that Mathews lose his license to practice law, and he is now disbarred. It is encouraging to witness the legal profession purging itself of individuals such as the publicly disgraced Walter Mathews IV.

Caloia campaigned for the 9th District Attorney’s office with the promise to prosecute, with vigor, white collar crime. Our new district attorney is standing tall and living up to her campaign promises.
