LETTER: Carbondale Fire deserves support on 4-B

It was troublesome for me as an employer, business and property owner in Carbondale to read some of the opinions of those opposed to 4-B in this paper and especially the one comparing some of our most trusted public servants to pigs. This is a disgusting way to try and get an opinion across and truly shows the ignorance of this individual and the complete irreverence for public civility. While I am a strong proponent of public debate on issues, this type of bottom feeding is exactly the type of behavior that should be discouraged by all, taxpayer or not.

I, for one, would like to urge those in the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District to vote YES on 4-B. I am not a resident of this district, but I am an employer, business owner and property owner in Carbondale. I rely on the professional and speedy response by these dedicated individuals to protect my investments, and more importantly protect those that work for my company that do live, shop locally and send their kids to schools in the area that these dedicated public servants at Carbondale Fire have sworn to protect. I have no doubt that the Carbondale fire department will continue to serve and be there for the community, in the best of their ability, no matter the outcome of the vote. After all they have been there through good times and bad helping people on their worst day for longer than any of us have been around. They have been there for us in our time of need, so let’s be there for them in their time of need and help correct this 40 percent deficit to their budget once and for all so they can continue to support us in our times of need for the long-term vitality of the community.
