LETTER: Commissioners are as good as their word

At a recent meeting of the Garfield Board of County Commissioners, a large number of Four Mile residents expressed their concerns about the county’s plan to blast and cut the rock at “Dead Man’s Curve.” The primary concern of those attending the meeting was that widening the curve would allow access for oil and gas industry trucks to access the Four Mile residential area and the Thompson Divide.

Our county commissioners have stated that the widening of “Dead Man’s Curve” is going to be done for the expressed purpose of mitigating safety concerns due to a number of serious accidents in the area. The BOCC have further publicly stated; “Four Mile road will remain a residential access and a designated ‘no haul’ route for large industrial trucks.”

There is a saying out here in the West: “A man is only as good as his word.” So we will see.
