Letter: County ‘stupid’ for giving funds to Planned Parenthood
If I’ve learned one thing, it’s that Planned Parenthood in West Glenwood Springs operates as part of the No. 1 abortion provider. They receive donations from contributions, individual donations and most of all from the taxpayer.
In the years 2012 and 2013, our Garfield County commissioners allotted no tax money to Planned Parenthood. I’d like to think it was because several women came before the Garfield County commissioners in an open meeting to oppose that funding. Fast-forward to last month. Our commissioners decided to give $2,700 of our county taxes to Planned Parenthood for the 2014 year. It gets better; the money cannot be used for abortions. Of course it will be used to perform abortions. Planned Parenthood is the No. 1 abortion provider. What do you think they’re going to use the money for? Quoting Forrest Gump, “Stupid is as stupid does.” Just as that quote is “stupid” so is the $2,700 donation.
For the last two years, I’ve been praying in front of Planned Parenthood once a week. The feedbacks from those who are pro-life far outnumber the those who are pro-abortion. In those two years, without our tax money, Planned Parenthood has thrived and survived. They are alive and well (wrong choice of words). The Planned Parenthood budget for years 2008-2009 was $1.04 billion. Yes, 1 billion. And they still need $2,700?
Planned Parenthood does provide low-cost birth control pills, condoms, self-breast exams, STD testing and pap smears.

They do not provide mammograms, post-abortion counseling or refer pregnant mothers to pregnancy or adoption agencies. Why? They make no money for that procedure. If the commissioners have so much extra money, why don’t they just return it to real nonprofit organizations? The taxpayers themselves.
The majority of people are against abortions on demand. Why then does the minority rule? The reason is that the majority remain silent.
You can be sure that those who fight for the unborn will be well represented at the 2015 Garfield County Commissioners tax money give-a-way.
Remember, evil exists when good men do nothing.
