Letter: Designer Dogs eventually end up in shelters

I was slightly unhappy with Charle’ Thibodeau’s article on Designer Dogs in the Thursday, Sept. 26, issue of the Post Independent. I’m sure it was meant to be informational and upbeat, but I felt it was almost promoting the so-called “Designer Dogs.”

I wish more people would look at their local shelters for these types of dogs. I bet you would find a lot of poodle/lab or pug/beagle or Maltese/poodle mixes. And a lot cheaper.

I’m also not a big fan of movies (“101 Dalmatians”) or commercials (the Taco Bell chihuahua) promoting specific breeds. When they run their course of being the “in” breed, shelters get full of them. Designer Dogs will probably be one of those phases and, again, shelters will be their next home.

Just my opinion, folks.
