Letter: Disappointed in Fourth events

First off I want to say that I understand that everyone has a different view of our great country, but I must say it is becoming increasingly sad that we can’t observe the Fourth of July and give respect to our Founding Fathers and for those who sacrificed so much to create the greatest country in the world, the United States of America.

July 4 should be celebrated on July 4, and I find it a disgrace and poor taste that so many communities are moving away from this. I am also very disappointed in the lack of effort put fourth by organizers to create a truly festive day. We were all excited about the parade that was to take place in Rifle and arrived early. Talk about an embarrassment to the City of Rifle — the parade was all of 1 minute long and wasn’t even worthy of being called a parade. It was a very sad and pathetic event.

And then come the fireworks that night. The symphony at Centennial Park was great entertainment, but there was nothing patriotic or American about the fireworks. They were mostly red, white and green. In fact, almost the whole show was those colors.

Stop throwing such poorly planned events. We the taxpayers of this country deserve so much more, and I feel that a lot more effort should go into showing pride and respect for our great nation and for the men and women who sacrificed everything to give us the freedoms we have today. The birth of our country deserves to be respected in my opinion.
