Letter: Doom of Battlement Mesa

Cheryl Brandon
Glenwood Springs

Well, you Garfield County commissioners have gone ahead and pounded the last nail in the coffin of Battlement Mesa. How very sad.

No number of “conditions” will prevent the damage and dirt to the roads, the incessant noise, the dust and odors blowing in the air, the lowering of property values or the anger and sadness of its citizens. You are giving them a potential of danger and sickness. You have shattered their dreams of living in a peaceful and healthy retirement community.

You chose to ignore viable evidence that drilling could be done from outside of the PUD.

Your being solely concerned if roads would be damaged in or around the PUD indicated right off the bat you were going to approve this abysmal endeavor.

You could have set a wonderful, understandable precedent here, but once again mighty oil and gas matters more to you.

One of you said this was the most “heart-wrenching and difficult” decision you have had to make. Just think how your wrenching decision will affect the hearts of Battlement Mesa citizens.
