Letter: Educate yourselves, and vote yes on Amendment 66

I think it is a crying shame that people are trashing the Affordable Care Act without knowing much about it. Witness the couple who complained righteously that it wouldn’t work for them without even looking into it, and using a false impression to wail about how bad it is. Others are claiming that it is going to create all sorts of catastrophes, even to the extent of ruining our country.

May I suggest that what may ruin our country is the growing number of people who do not know enough about current affairs and are unfamiliar with critical thinking. They are vulnerable to brainwashing by talking heads who seem to have no positive vision of how our country might be and distribute “information” that is not documented and/or is blatantly false.

I share these thoughts to explain why I will vote yes for increased spending for education. A democracy must give its citizens the tools for making wise, informed decisions, and our public schools are the place where this ability is developed and promoted. I hope others will share my sense of how desperately we need to increase funding of our schools and vote yes on Amendment 66.
