Letter: Everyone — except struggling artists

Joe Wilson

A quick note to the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts that will fall on deaf ears: $50 a ticket to your soiree touting the need to support the arts and local artists? Really?

The median household income in the area is about $53K. My wife and I are artists. We are not “members,” nor can we afford $100 to participate and support the arts as you see it.

Most artists are struggling artists. Several times in the Post Independent, Christina Brusig makes the comment “something for everyone.” Which “everyone” are you talking about? The “everyone” with money and affluence, or the “everyone” in Glenwood Springs? With a $50 price tag, the answer is obvious.

Thanks for making another interesting and fun event for only the privileged, and not the true artists in our community.
