Letter: Exporting our energy independence will cost us

President Obama’s Commerce Department just announced approval for American oil companies to begin exporting crude oil overseas. Several oil companies were complaining to our government that they were not making enough profit and wanted to get more money for our oil in the overseas market.

This information is based on a news story from the Wall Street Journal on June 25. In recent months, members of Congress, specifically Republicans, have wanted to pass legislation to approve the export of natural gas to Europe, mainly the Ukraine. So basically, our government wants to allow the oil and gas companies to export our energy independence to the highest bidder overseas.

While this is going on, the oil companies and Wall Street will jack up the price of gasoline even further due to the Iraq civil war. The average price of a gallon of gasoline that Americans are paying today is around $3.68 according to the WSJ. How ironic. We have a surplus of oil and gas in this country, but we still get hijacked at the gas pump! Americans need to brace themselves for more price-gouging. It could be a lengthy price-gouging due to escalating trouble in the Middle East.

Since Americans will be robbed with higher gas prices at the pumps again, we need a class-action lawsuit against our government. It is becoming a tiresome job for Americans to fight their own government everyday just to survive in an expensive economy that is ruled by the oil companies and Wall Street!
