Letter: Free speech: Can we say anything? This reader says ‘no’

Gentlemen: If you want to be taken as something more than a puff publication, you will have to get rid of Ms. Krystyn Hartman as a contributor. Her comment that “We have the absolute freedom to say and print anything we want” is simply not correct. [Read Hartman’s column — “Charlie, Miranda, and the First Amendment” — online at http://www.gjfreepress.com.]

If she were correct, then you could yell fire in a crowded theater, you could libel and slander anyone, you could publish pornography all with total impunity.

If I had the absolute right to say anything, any time, anywhere, about anyone, I would be tempted in this letter to refer to certain parts of human anatomy when describing her column. Instead I will simply as “Is she bonkers?”
