LETTER: Glenwood Springs should host hockey tournaments

Hockey tournaments bring revenue to communities. The Aspen Times outlined the Aspen Fall Face-Off hockey tournament brought $1.6 million revenue to Aspen and they are planning to repeat the event next spring. I am writing to emphasize the incredible missed opportunities to the Glenwood Springs community.

This is mainly due to our limited facilities. I am a hockey mom and have traveled the country and state and have seen what surrounding communities offer for ice rinks and facilities. The city of Glenwood is assisting with funding a locker room plan. As it is, our players and visiting teams have to change in construction containers, and female players change in the commode area. Glenwood should provide locker rooms like Steamboat, Breckenridge and Aspen at the bare minimum.

Having year-round indoor ice and ideally a second sheet of ice would not only provide our community opportunity for revenue, but would establish a large sense of pride. We can offer affordable vacation packages like no other mountain resort can. If you are interested in helping with these efforts please contact http://www.grizzlyhockey.com.
