LETTER: Good work on air pollution standards

When I read the recent op-ed on moms supporting air pollution standards, I literally said “Yes!” out loud. Not only is the proposed rule sound, but also the process to craft it worked beautifully.

Here we had an example of all interested parties — elected officials, oil and gas companies, nonprofits and impacted families — looking for a common sense solution to our growing air pollution problem. And industry, policy-makers and citizens alike came to agreement on the need to detect and repair gas and methane leaks at wells and tanks, stop natural gas venting and disclose chemical emissions.

Wow, Congress could take a lesson from this group in Colorado who defined a problem, discussed possible options to fix it and came to consensus on a solution. Living on the Western Slope I know that our air simply can’t take any more pollution, from any source. So, let’s get this passed and move on to solve other problems Colorado faces.
