Letter: Green Dragon employees gone

The valley employees of the Green Dragon were terminated due to the change in ownership. After holding their breath for weeks following the sale of the store to a Denver-based company, their fate was known.

Greenwerkz, the new owner, opted to replace the local workers. Rumors had followed the news of the sale, but without any information being passed along to the staff, each one hoped Greenwerkz would recognize the value of retaining local employees in our valley. If not, some of them had asked the store manager to “let me down easy” — that they preferred to hear the news from him. As the manager received no advance notice on the terminations and was, in fact, terminated along with them, it was a harsh end.

Not long after the news was known, a text regarding the previous owner being taken to the hospital with chest pains and high blood pressure was sent out.

The Green Dragon employees had built a “family” there. They cared about you and your needs. If you walk into the Green Dragon now, be prepared to introduce yourself. The employees who knew you are gone.

Editor’s note: Greenwerkz’s president told the Post Independent this week that some former Green Dragon employees had been offered jobs with the new company.
